A.B., Bard College. Active both as a guitarist and composer, Champlin has performed in the "Hear American First" series in Carnegie Recital Hall, with the Concord String Quartet, at the Bar Harbor New Music Festival, and the Fairbanks Music Festival. He was recently featured on WNYC-FM's program "Around New York".
As a composer, he has written for all mediums, from orchestra to solo guitar. Among his more than 100 pieces are Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, written for and premiered at the Korean National Institute of the Arts in Seoul by guitarist Hae Kwon Oh; Triple Concerto, written for Capital Chamber Artists' 25th anniversary concert, and broadcast on WMHT; chamber concerto for Nine Guitars, written for guitarist David Starobin and broadcast on the "Ars Nova" TV series with Mr. Starobin conducting the Purchase Guitar Ensemble;Darkness and Light for large guitar ensemble and eight flutes, written for and performed under the direction of flutist John Solum; Ghost Story for voice, organ, and guitar; and Each New Birth, for choir, flute, guitar, and organ, commissioned for the 25th anniversary of Christ the King Seminary. His Fantasia for Flute, Violin, and Guitar was recently premiered and recorded by Capitol Chamber Artists, and his Concerto for Guitars and Percussion was performed by the Mannes Guitar Ensemble. His concerto for two guitars, two percussion, and Orchestra was performed by the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra with Luis Garcia Renart conducting.
